Peterson Statement at Hearing to Review U.S. International Food Aid Programs

We are focusing on stakeholder perspectives today and I think the groups before us should all be commended for the work that they do around the globe. The partnerships with private organizations, millers and shippers have allowed the United States to deliver more than $80 billion in international food aid since World War II.

U.S. International Food Aid Programs: Stakeholder Perspectives

--As Prepared for Delivery--

“Thank you Mr. Chairman and I welcome today’s witnesses to the Committee.

“As the Chair said, today’s hearing continues the Committee’s review into international food aid programs in advance of the next farm bill. We made several improvements to U.S. food aid programs in the 2014 Farm Bill and I look forward to hearing from our witnesses on how they have been impacted by these changes.

“We are focusing on stakeholder perspectives today and I think the groups before us should all be commended for the work that they do around the globe. The partnerships with private organizations, millers and shippers have allowed the United States to deliver more than $80 billion in international food aid since World War II.

“Again, I thank our witnesses for the work they do and for appearing before the Committee today. I look forward to your testimony and yield back.”
