Ranking Member David Scott Hails $300 Million in New Investments to Improve Measurement, Monitoring, Reporting and Verification of Greenhouse Gas Emissions
House Agriculture Committee Ranking Member David Scott released the below statement after Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack today announced the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) will invest $300 million to improve measurement, monitoring, reporting and verification of greenhouse gas emissions and carbon sequestration in climate-smart agriculture and forestry. The new investments are made possible by the Inflation Reduction Act.
“America’s farmers and foresters are our nation’s most staunch stewards of our precious lands.
“The $300 million in funding, which House Agriculture Democrats secured when negotiating the Inflation Reduction Act, will ensure our farmers and foresters have the data and verification tools necessary to ensure an evidence-based approach to carbon sequestration and greenhouse gas emissions monitoring.
“I’m thankful to see Congressional Democrats deliver once again for America’s agriculture community and look forward to working with our partners in farming and forestry as they continue to pursue the sustainable stewardship of our nation’s farmland and forests.”
