Peterson, Costa Welcome USTR Consultation on TRQs on Canadian Dairy

WASHINGTON – In response to an announcement today that the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative will begin consultations on the enforcement of Canada's tariff rate quota (TRQ) allocations for imported dairy products, House Agriculture Committee Chairman Collin Peterson of Minnesota and Livestock and Foreign Agriculture Subcommittee Chairman Jim Costa of California welcomed the news in a statement:

“We are glad USTR has heeded the recommendations of the bipartisan group of Members who have called for careful monitoring of Canada’s implementation of their dairy TRQ. U.S. dairy farmers have faced enough challenges this year, and to accomplish the potential gains for dairy farmers in the USMCA, we have to make sure that the provisions of the agreement are fully enforced. Stability in the dairy sector depends on a level playing field for all parties, and today’s announcement is a good step toward ensuring those equal terms exist.”
